As I walked down Green Way, each and every house seemed the same. Just as every day, my stroll was short and led me away. Away from what? Well, the fears I fear. The things too painful to see, so I run away to protect one’s sanity. What I left behind was nothing, for what I found was everything.
The small glimmer of the unknown catches my eye, like something I have never seen before. As the blinding shimmer of this object almost makes me peer away, I take one step closer to identify this as a bird to its prey.
As my hand reaches out, the touch of the entity sends a shock wave of energy up my spine and reaches my brain. I snap my hand back, and fall onto the grass. I stumble to regain myself, as I sit up to examine this object again.
My eyes focus, my head tilts in confusion. For this mysterious object was, in fact, no mystery to me. It was the $1 coin I see almost each and every day, the loonie of all things. Shocked at this discovery, I stand myself up to ponder. How does a simple loonie shine this way? As I pick up a leaf from beside, I start to reach out for the loonie’s grasp. I quickly retract my arm, as fear enters my thoughts and I decide to walk away.
I turn around to face from what I had been running and turn the other way. This imbecilic object has distracted me from my purpose. I take one more step forward and pause. Maybe my fears aren’t as bad as I believe?
I had not been gaining anything, but more pain as I walked away. I thought maybe it is time to face them and move on from this slow pace. I swiftly turn around and walk, directly into my fears. For if a loonie can shine as bright as the sun, I can have the courage of a lion.
