We Are Not Defined By A Number

Every single day, students are challenged in school. This is through tests, quizzes, assignments, labs and more.

A lot of these students feel defined by the grades they receive on these assessments.

I am, some of the time, one of them.

It’s hard to feel confident when the pressure is always rising to be smarter, more inquisitive, faster and more focused. When in reality, many of us play sports, instruments or do other activities.

There is no way to get a perfect balance. And if there is, I wouldn’t know how to achieve it.

I can’t offer solutions, I am not a school or government board.

But I can use my small voice to at least say I think things need to change.

I think we need better grading systems, homework management with teachers, less pressure, and more styles of assessments for the different styles of learning.

Visual

Auditory

Kinesthetic

And more.

No two students will perform the same no matter how equally they are treated.

I think the way students are treated in schools today is unfair and unrealistic.

So much stress, for what?

I just think about it sometimes and stare.

We sit in there for hours a day

To go off into the world

And still, we have no idea

Which street leads us home
